Fabulous Fell Fixing Friends

We got stuck in and did our bit as 360 volunteers descended to help out with 11 practical conservation tasks in our fabulous catchment – as part of Friends of the Lake Districts Windermere Fell Care day in October. In just one day approx 125 volunteers days of work was achieved including clearing drains on 15.5km of paths on Loughrigg, Wansfell, and Nab Scar, creating 25m of new path and rebuilding 21m of dry stone walls and shore side revetment walls at Wray Castle and Miller Ground, planting 120 native hazel and juniper trees at Sweden Wood, Ambleside, plus 1500 native daffodil and snowdrop bulbs at St Catherine’s’ Windermere, not to mention divers collecting about 1 tonne of rubbish from the bed of the lake!! We were particularly involved with school children who visited St. Catherine’s and learnt how important woodlands are for all sorts of things including wood to make charcoal, the children made and took away artists charcoal.
